Raiders beat Patriots on one of the wildest game-winning plays in NFL history

We’ve never seen an ending like this before.

The Las Vegas Raiders beat the New England Patriots on one of the wildest plays in NFL history on Sunday. On the game’s final play with the score tied at 24, the Patriots attempted a lateral drill. Bizarrely, wide receiver Jakobi Meyers attempted an extremely high risk backwards throw across the field to no one in particular. It was a huge mistake.

The ball landed in the hands of Raiders defensive lineman Chandler Jones at midfield, with only Patriots quarterback Mac Jones standing between him and the end zone. Jones made quick work of the QB with a stiff arm, and scampered to the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.

The result could have serious ramifications for the AFC playoff picture, with the loss knocking the Patriots a game out of the final two playoff spots. The fact that the Patriots, who could’ve just let the game go into overtime, didn’t need to sell out on the final play, will only make it hurt more.
